  • About the research group: The research group is led by Dr. Yuxiang Sun (Chinese: 孫宇翔). We study robotics and artificial intelligence, with a focus on autonomous driving. Our mission is to create artificial intelligence-powered perception and control systems that can navigate autonomous vehicles in various dynamic and complex environments at a large scale. The research group currently has 1 Postdoctoral research fellow, 6 Ph.D students, 2 Master students, and 5 Undergraduate students. One PhD student successfully won the highly-competitive Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) award in the 2021/2022 academic year.

    Short biography of the PI: Dr. Yuxiang Sun joined The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as a research assistant professor in 2020. He serves as an Associate Editor of the top-tier robotics journal and conference: IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L) and IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA). Dr. Sun has authored or co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed research papers, most of which were published in prestigious journals and conferences. He has two RA-L papers that achieved the Popular Articles in this journal, and two Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) papers that achieved the Most Cited Articles in this journal. One RAS paper ranked No. 1 in the most cited articles of 2020, and the other one ranked No. 2 in the most cited articles of 2021. Dr. Sun received the Best Paper in Robotics award at the IEEE-ROBIO 2019 conference, and the Best Student Paper Finalist award at the IEEE-ROBIO 2015 conference.

  • 11/2021: A General Research Fund project of Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong (广东省自然科学基金面上项目) was successfully approved. The success rate is 24.96%.

  • 09/2021: Dr. Sun was appointed as an Associate Editor of IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA).

  • 07/2021: Dr. Sun was appointed as an Associate Editor of IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L).

  • 06/2021: Dr. Sun serves as a reviewer for Shenzhen STIC Projects (深圳科创委项目评审专家).

  • 04/2021: Congratulations to Weixin Ma for winning the highly-competitive Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) award (HK$26,900/month during the entire PhD study period)!
